Everest Panorama Trek: 9 Days

Everest, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse views without going to Base Camp. Max elevation 3,880 m. Ideal for families, older trekkers, and first-time Himalayan visitors.

9 days3,880 m maxFrom $950
The Everest Panorama Trek is designed for trekkers who want to see Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and Lhotse without committing to the altitude, duration, or physical demands of a full Base Camp trek. The route flies into Lukla (2,860 m) and reaches only as far as Tengboche (3,860 m) and the Everest View Hotel at Syangboche (3,880 m), both well within a range where altitude sickness risk is low.

This itinerary suits trekkers aged 55 and over, families with teenagers (minimum age approximately 12), and first-time visitors to Nepal who want to add a genuine Himalayan trekking experience to a broader cultural trip. Because the maximum elevation never exceeds 3,880 m, the itinerary carries none of the mandatory high-altitude acclimatisation requirements of the EBC variations, though the standard Namche rest day is still included as good practice.

On clear days, Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and Lhotse are all visible from both the Everest View Hotel and Tengboche Monastery, the same peaks the longer itineraries take twice as long to see, reached here in a compact 9-day trip with a gentler daily pace.

Highlights

  • Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and Lhotse views without reaching Base Camp
  • Maximum elevation of just 3,880 m keeps AMS risk low
  • Suits trekkers 55+, families with teenagers, and first-time Himalayan visitors
  • Tengboche Monastery, the spiritual heart of the Khumbu
  • Namche Bazaar's Saturday market and Sherpa culture museum

The flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Lukla (2,860 m), a 527 m sloped runway with a one-directional approach, takes roughly 25-30 minutes when operating from Kathmandu, or around 20 minutes plus a 4-hour pre-dawn drive when operating from Manthali/Ramechhap in peak season. From Lukla, the trail descends gently through Chaurikharka and along the Dudh Koshi river to Phakding (2,610 m), passing prayer wheels and the trek's first mani walls.

From Phakding (2,610 m) the trail follows the Dudh Koshi river, crossing several suspension bridges including the high Hillary Suspension Bridge near Jorsale, before entering Sagarmatha National Park at the Monjo checkpoint. A steep switchback climb through pine forest gains 830 m to reach Namche Bazaar (3,440 m), the Khumbu's main trading hub and the first mandatory two-night acclimatisation stop.

4
Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazaar: Everest View Hotel and Khumjung village

Moderate
3,440 m9 km4-5 hrsB,L,D

Acclimatisation day in Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) following the golden "climb high, sleep low" rule. The morning hike climbs to the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) at Syangboche, offering the first distant view of Everest's summit pyramid alongside Ama Dablam and Thamserku, before descending through Khumjung village, home to the Khumjung monastery and its Sherpa culture museum. Return to Namche for the second acclimatisation night.

5
Tengboche

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche Monastery

Moderate
3,860 m10 km5-6 hrsB,L,D

From Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) the trail climbs to Kyangjuma and Sanasa before dropping to cross the Dudh Koshi again, then climbs steadily through rhododendron forest to Tengboche (3,860 m), home to the largest and most significant monastery in the Khumbu. On clear afternoons, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam are all visible from the monastery courtyard.

Moderate
3,440 m14 km4-5 hrsB,L,D
